Stay where the island still feels wild

Clachamish House sits in a quiet valley in the north of Skye, a short drive from Portree and a ten-minute walk from the shore of Loch Snizort. It began life around 1760 as the factor's house for the township of Clachamish — and it has been watching over this glen ever since.

Sophie and Calum restored the house in 2023, keeping its period character intact while threading in modern design and quiet comfort throughout. Four spaces, each for two, with homemade breakfast, wood-fired warmth and nothing but hills, horses and sea air outside the window.

A house that has evolved through time

Clachamish House was built around 1760 as the factor's house for the township of Clachamish — only a few years after Culloden, as the old clan world was giving way to a new age of estates and improvement.

The name reaches back further still. In the genealogical account of the Bethunes of Skye — the family celebrated as hereditary physicians across the Highlands — Kenneth Bethune is recorded as the first known holder of the "title of Clachamish" in 1778, binding this glen to one of the island's oldest families.

In 2023, Sophie and Calum became its latest keepers — restoring the house with care to secure its character for the next chapter, and yours.

"Carefully renovated, with work focused on keeping its character intact while securing it for the next chapter."

Breakfast, homemade every morning

Mornings start with a generous, homemade breakfast — fresh bread still warm from the oven, granola guests keep asking us for the recipe, and preserves made in our own kitchen to set you up for the day.

Take it in the map-lined breakfast room or out in the curved glasshouse with a coffee, the glen waking up around you. It's the part guests write home about.

Your hosts, Sophie & Calum

We were first drawn to Skye by Clachamish itself: an old house with a quiet pull and a story to uncover. Since arriving, we've grown ever more attached to its history, its landscape and its sense of place.

We feel lucky to be its latest guardians, alongside Bella and Gus.
